On April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hays Nature Preserve, celebrate Earth Day with Operation Green Team!
You can learn how to better care for our environment and celebrate the world around us. There will be numerous children’s activities, dozens of extraordinary earth-friendly exhibits and demonstrations, two butterfly releases, and more.
Below is a sneak peek of what you can find at Huntsville’s largest Earth Day celebration.
Mornings are for the birds? You bet they are!
Start the morning at 8 a.m. with a Bird Outing guided by John Ehinger and the Tennessee Valley Audubon Society. Make sure to bring your binoculars so you can spot all the incredible birds that live at or visit Hays Nature Preserve.
Get to know your neighbors
From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., you can walk around the Preserve and observe more than 80 exhibitors from all across the south.
Water works
There will be water conservation demonstrations by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System featuring the Water Wheels mobile lab.
Wildlife wonder
Get up close to snakes, a gopher tortoise & more as you learn about wildlife in Alabama from the Alabama 4H Science Center.
Importance of Bees
Learn about beekeeping from the Madison County Beekeepers Association.
So Fly
Learn about fly fishing with casting and fly-tying demos by the Tennessee Valley Fly Fishers.
Spread your wings
Watch butterflies flutter into the sky at our two butterfly releases at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This has become a highlight of the Earth Day Festival and you don’t want to miss it.
Fly like an eagle
Between 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the Southeastern Raptor Center will host an Eagle program that you can drop in to view.
Good Grub
Enjoy hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy provided by Operation Green Team or pack a picnic lunch! Make sure to bring your reusable water bottle. There will be refilling stations placed throughout the Preserve.
One of the best parts of Earth Day is that everything is FREE to enjoy!
This event would not be possible without the generous support of Boeing and the Huntsville International Airport. If you have any questions or would like any additional information, please call Denise Taylor at (256) 564-8077 or reach out to us via Facebook.
