From meals with Santa to ice skating under the stars, there’s holiday fun around nearly every corner. Visit MidCity’s event calendar for a complete listing.
Winter Park

Back for a second year, Winter Park at The Orion Amphitheater is open through Monday, Jan. 1. It again features visits from Santa, curling and train rides. If you’re steady on your feet, give the “glice” rink a whirl.
In case you’re wondering, glice is a sustainable, water and energy-free synthetic material that mimics ice. It saves The Orion more than 10,000 liters of water, 4.75 tons of CO2 emissions and the energy consumption of nearly 200 households.
Eat, drink and be merry

Proving there’s something for all ages, “kids from 1 to 92” can enjoy Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 16. Staggered reservations are available from 9-10 a.m. with a ticket purchase. The meal is prepared by Chef Josh Quick of Odette, an acclaimed Florence restaurant.
Those over 21 can enjoy cocktail classes Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., with a focus on fondue and winter warmers. The monthly class is $60 per person.
Occurring nightly through Dec. 22, there’s Miracle at MidCity, which offers food and drink specials as well as live music on the weekends.
Shop ’til you drop

Got any hard-to-buy-for friends or family members? You might find something unique at Arts Huntsville’s Christkindlemarket, running Dec. 8-10 at The Orion. The annual sale includes over 60 art vendors, local musicians and German-themed food and drinks.
If time is almost up, visit the Last-Minute Holiday Market Saturday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to grab hand-crafted, 11th-hour gifts for an office Christmas party or White Elephant exchange.
Sounds of the season
The Winter Blast Series will feature Samir Fields-Spruill, Samuel Penn and The N.E.I.G.H.B.O.R.S., Mulan Thornberry, C1ive and Ty Blackwell, Poor Rover, Kam Jones and Smorgasbord.
If your ears need a break from traditional holiday music, check out the Winter Blast Series at The Orion, presented by the Huntsville Music Office. Gates open at 5 p.m. with music starting at 8. Here’s the schedule:
- Thursday, Dec. 14: Samir Fields-Spruill, Samuel Penn and The N.E.I.G.H.B.O.R.S.
- Tuesday, Dec. 19: Mulan Thornberry, C1ive and Ty Blackwell
- Thursday, Dec. 28: Poor Rover, Kam Jones and Smorgasbord
The Camp will also host holiday music with Charles and Tanya Friday, Dec. 15, and Dec. 22, both at 7 p.m.
Trees with a purpose
Still need a holiday tree? The Camp is participating in Buy a Tree, Change a Life, a nonprofit campaign aimed at helping children during the holidays through the sale of live Christmas trees. The organization’s raised more than $7.8 million for kids in need since 2012.
The tree sale is open weekdays through Dec. 15 from 4-7 p.m.
