Don’t Delay: Swim lessons begin soon at Huntsville Parks & Recreation

single-meta-cal March 31, 2022

Summer will be here before we know it, bringing backyard pool parties, trips to the lake, maybe even a vacation at the beach. Are you and your family ready?

While water-related activities are a great way to cool off and have some summer fun, they can also pose a significant risk. Among children 14 and under, drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury death, behind only auto accidents.

Swimming is a vital life skill – one you’re never too young or old to learn. Huntsville Parks & Recreation offers classes for all ages and skill levels, from parent and child to adult beginner.

Classes are conveniently offered at both the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center pool and Huntsville Aquatics Center.

The Showers Center pool is located at 4600 Blue Spring Road NW, Huntsville. Its spring session runs April 5 to May 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both morning and afternoon lessons are available. To grab a spot for the spring session, please call 256-851-4003. In-person registration is required.

Located at 2213 Drake Ave. SW, the Huntsville Aquatics Center will offer in-person registration April 4-8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Its spring session runs April 12 to May 12 for Tuesday and Thursday classes. Wednesday classes will meet April 13 to June 15. Certain classes require a swim evaluation before enrolling. Please call 256-883-3700 now to reserve your evaluation time slot. Swim evaluations cannot be guaranteed during registration hours.

The cost for 10 swim lessons at both locations is $75. Every attempt will be made to hold classes as listed. However, there are staffing shortages due to COVID. If cancellations are required, prorated refunds will be available.
